Why we must act now

Behind the numbers are real lives

Behind the numbers are real lives

Behind the numbers are real lives

1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.
This represents approximately 7 million women in the UK alone.

Behind every number is a real person: a mother, sister, daughter or friend, living with fear and shame, carrying deep trauma and facing a profoundly uncertain future.

Escape is only the beginning

Behind the numbers are real lives

Behind the numbers are real lives

Domestic abuse does not end when a woman leaves her abuser.

For too many, escape is just the beginning of another struggle.

Survivors often flee with nothing, moving into empty social housing and facing financial poverty, untreated trauma and the overwhelming challenge of rebuilding life from scratch.

The hidden reality of abuse

Behind the numbers are real lives

The hidden reality of abuse

98% of social housing where many survivors move to is unfurnished.

Fewer than 50% access the support they need once crisis services end.

95% of survivors experience financial abuse, leaving them in severe hardship.

42% of survivors live with mental health illnesses such as depression and PTSD, but face long waiting lists.

Together, we can change this story. By standing together, we can break the silence, fund the essentials that turn an empty house into a home and provide counselling that helps women heal. Together, we can ensure no survivor has to choose between poverty and returning to abuse.

Take part in 4 simple steps

  1. Snap it – write '1 in 4' on your hand and take a selfie
  2. Post it – share your photo (see suggested caption below) and include #1in4Challenge
  3. Add the link – include a link to this page in your post to raise awareness and help fund vital support for survivors.
  4. Pass it on – tag 4 friends to take part and keep the challenge moving.

SUGGESTED CAPTION (COPY & PASTE)

1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse.

Yet fewer than half get the support they need once crisis services end.

Too many of our friends, sisters and colleagues are left in poverty and with untreated trauma. Some are even forced back to their abusers because they have nowhere else to turn.

This #DomesticAbuseAwarenessMonth, I’m taking the #1in4Challenge and donating to support women rebuilding their lives after fleeing domestic abuse. I nominate [@4 people] to do the same.

Help her find her strength again

Just one post can make a difference. When we act together, our voices carry power.

Please share — and donate if you can. Your support will give someone hope, dignity and the chance of a future free from abuse.

Even if you can’t give, you can still raise awareness and stand with survivors.

No woman should have to suffer alone.

Take the #1in4Challenge. Stand with survivors. Help someone heal and rebuild after escaping abuse.
